TransportationAmsterdam has an extensive and very reliable network of public transportation. It includes buses, trains, tram and metro. TrainTrains in the Netherlands are typically used for longer journeys, either to another town or city, or to travel across Amsterdam. Further information about Amsterdam's train stations can be read here. From Schiphol Airport, during the daytime, an average of five trains an hour run to Amsterdam Central Station. At night, you can use the late-night routes. From 1 am to 5 pm, the night train runs once an hour from Utrecht CS to Amsterdam CS - Schiphol - Leiden CS - The Hague CS - Delft and Rotterdam CS and back, not stopping at smaller stations in between. Information about trains: www.ns.nl BusAmsterdam operates a full bus network, which will take you anywhere you have to go. Like trams, the strippenkaarten can be used to pay for your journey. TramTrams are common in Amsterdam, with routes heading out from the centre in all directions. Trams are ideal for short journeys around the city centre, as well as for traveling to other districts. MetroAmsterdam's metro runs underneath the centre, from Central Station to the outer districts. This can be a fast and efficient way to travel, though the trains only run overground away from the centre, so you lose out on the picturesque view.
